Brooding - Canvas

This piece was created for the Connections 2024 conference based on the theme of Imagination to Incarnation. Inspired by watching a mother robin nurture her chicks to life on my back porch. I observed her brooding over them, offering the warmth of her body, and tirelessly flying back and forth to gather food.
Like the Spirit hovering over creation at the beginning, the journey from inspiration to incarnation isn’t instantaneous. It unfolds slowly through loving union with God - feather to feather, heartbeat to heartbeat, and through a long process of feeding and nurturing until what is fragile can fly on its own. As imagination takes on flesh within us, we too must become like these fledgling chicks—vulnerably opening our mouths and unabashedly asking for what we need—trusting in the shelter and nourishment of God’s brooding Spirit until what is within us is ready to fly.
